Abstract
In a method of metallising a ceramic or like article a metallic layer consisting of a mixture of iron and/or nickel powder with copper powder is applied at least to a portion of the article in any suitable manner and fired to produce a firmly adherent metallic layer. For example, a ceramic tube may have applied to it a mixture of iron powder with 7 1/2 per cent by weight of copper powder and 1 per cent to 10 per cent by weight of a ceramic flux suspended in a solution of cellulose nitrate in amyl lactate and be fired at 1000-1400 DEG C., preferably 1100-1300 DEG C., in a neutral or reducing atmosphere. A copper cup may then be soldered to the metal layer in an atmosphere of dry hydrogen.
