Abstract

594,086. Centripetal ejector pumps. GRUSS, F. K. Dec. 12, 1944, No. 24908. [Class 110 (i)] An air-compressor suitable for a supercharger of an internal-combustion engine, comprises a rotor B having radial pockets 11 running between an outer complete housing A and an inner segmental housing C. Fresh air enters the central space of the rotor through an axial inlet in the housing A, the compressed air is obtained in the cavity 16 of the housing C, whence it is delivered by a pipe 18, and exhaust gas from the internal-combustion engine, or other energizing gas under pressure, is introduced to the chamber 25. The fresh air fills the pockets 11 and these in turn, as the rotor is rotated clockwise, pass within a closely contacting portion 20 of the housing A and then register with the housing C. The already compressed air in the cavity 16 enters the pockets and compresses the fresh air therein to its own pressure. Later, the outer ends of the pockets register with the chamber 25 and the internal-combustion engine exhaust gas (or other gas at a suitable pressure) drives the compressed air inwards into the housing C. The speed of this movement and the rotational speed of the rotor are so related that the exhaust gases do not reach the inner ends of the pockets before the latter have passed out of register with the housing C. Finally, fresh air under centrifugal force drives the exhaust gas out of the pockets into a discharge volute.
