Abstract
593,786. Removing moulded articles from presses. LUPTON, F. J., TURNER, G. M., FOX & OFFORD, Ltd., and V. & E. PLASTICS, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1944, No. 25278. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] The invention is concerned with removing die-plates or moulds from a plastic-moulding or die-casting machine. The machine has two cradles or hinged carriers each of which is movable from a middle position, in which :it receives the die-plate or mould, to a side position where the cradle or die-plate can be tilted. The upper die-plate 12 is slidable horizontally in fixed guides 14, and the lower die-plate (not shown )is vertically reciprocable by a hydraulic press. After a moulding operation, the lower dieplate is lowered and the operator grasps a handle 17 on the upper die-plate and pulls the latter out on to a cradle 19 which is slidably hinged on rod 21. He then slides the cradle along to one end of the rod, and tilts it up vertically so that the underface of the upper dieplate carrying the moulded articles (screw threaded parts), is accessible and the articles may be detached. A second cradle, holding a second empty die-plate, is then slid from the other end of the rod into a central position, and the second die-plate is pushed from its cradle into the guides 14. Means are provided for ensuring that a cradle cannot move sideways nor rotate on the rod 21 between the initiation and completion of the outward sliding movement of a die-plate. Catches 29 hold the cradles in a vertical position. The cradles may be power-operated. In the application of the invention to die-casting machines the lower die-plate is used but the place of the upper die-plate 12 is taken by a mould arranged to slide in and out of the machine. In modifications (1) (Fig. 7), the die-plates 12 are received on members 30 pivoted on vertical shafts 31, (2) the lower die-plate is fixed, (3) the moulding pressure is applied horizontally.
