[Class 8 (ii)] A dust separator for gas under pressure com-. prises a separating chamber within which rotates a member constructed to provide a plurality of circumferentially arranged cells to which is delivered particulate material, and means whereby dust-laden gas is made to traverse some of the rotating cells and is thereby cleaned, whilst contaminated material is removed from the remaining blocked cells to a screening device. In operation dust-laden gas enters a separating chamber 2, Fig. 1, and traverses rotatable sand-filled cells formed by cone frustrums 3', 3" and radial separators 4, Fig. 2, and is discharged through an opening a, b, c, d in a fixed plate 7 to an outlet 5. Contaminated sand is discharged through an outlet 8 to a rotary screen 11, and the cleaned sand is delivered to the separator at 10 by a screw conveyor 14. In a modification contaminated sand is discharged through traps beneath each cell and which traps are opened only when the associated cells are out of register with the opening a, b, c, d. The sand passes a vibrating screen before delivery to the separator. In a further modification the vibrating screen is helical and so serves to convey cleaned dust to the separator. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a further modification in which the dust-laden air inlet is at the side of the chamber and the sand is held between parallel perforated checks arranged singly or in pairs in each cell. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
