[Class 20(iv)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXIII] A reinforced structure, for example a beam, comprises a body of cementitous or plastic material capable of hard setting (such as Portland, magnesite and, lime cements, gypsum and plastics) reinforced by elements formed from fine drawn or blown glass fibres treated with a plastic medium which is relatively inelastic when set, such as a heat setting phenolic resin. The glass fibres may have projecting solid granular particles, which may be of a vitreous character, anchored thereto at spaced intervals to increase their anchorage in the embedding material and a group of fibres may be bonded together by the plastic medium to form a rod-like reinforcement element. The plastic medium may be set after incorporation in the cementitous or plastic material.
