Abstract

Dextrose is obtained by hydrolysing a starch suspension with acid under heat and pressure, neutralizing with an inorganic base which reacts with the acid to form a salt which is insoluble in the hydrolysate, removing the salt, concentrating the solution and crystallizing out a substantial portion of the dextrose. The residual solution containing the reversion products is added to a new starch suspension for similar hydrolysis. The preferred reagents are sulphuric acid and lime since the resultant calcium sulphate is collected on the filter which may be bone char. the pH being kept at 4- 5.5. After revivification the char is treated with dilute hydrochloric acid before re-use. Specification 531,093 is referred to.
