Abstract
592,144. Lenses. HASSELKUS, J. W., and RICHMOND, G. A. May 22, 1945, No. 12774. [Class 97 (i)] An objective of the type shown comprising a negative doublet and a positive meniscus on each side of a central diaphragm has the following characteristics : (1) the refractive indices of the double convex lenses lie between 1.66 and 1.57 and their dispersive indices are above 53. (2) The refractive and dispersive indices of the double concave lenses are lower than those of the double convex lenses so that at the cemented surfaces the difference of refractive index is not greater than 0.8 and of dispersive index not greater than 20. (3) The refractive and dispersive indices of the positive menisci lie between 1.66 and 1.51 and 45 and 60 respectively. (4) The focal lengths of the doublets are each numerically greater than twice the focal length of the complete lens and the focal lengths of the meniscus lenses lie between .08 and 1.6 such focal length. Data are given.
