Abstract
591,920. Adjustable seats. HENSHALL & SONS (ADDLESTONE), Ltd., W., and HENSHALL, D. E. H. April 25, 1945, No. 10378. [Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable seat comprises a back B pivoted at 10 to side members D and hinged at its lower edge 9 to the rear of the seat C, the front of which is provided at each side with a guide member 15 engaging a roller 16 on the side member to enable the position of the seat and back to be varied while the occupant remains seated, releasable catches 18 being provided for locking the seat in any desired position. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5 the catches 18 comprise spring loaded plungers carrying pins 23 engaging holes 24 in the guides 15, disengagement of the pins being effected by the occupant, through plungers 25, 26, passing through the side members D and which carry wedge-shaped cams 27 actuating the plungers. Alternatively the plungers may be operated by crank arms, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). The head rest A its adjustable for height, being retained in any desired position by spring catches 4 which engage registering slots in the sides 2, 3, of the chair back and head rest respectively. As shown in Fig. 7 the chair may be readily dismantled for transport, the means for holding the components together comprising tubular spigots 11, Fig. 3, fitting into sockets 10, the former being expanded against the latter by conical wedges 37 and screws 38, rotation of the wedges being prevented by ribs 39 engaging in slots 40 in the walls of the spigots.
