Abstract
591,563. Two-stroke engines. TROJAN, Ltd., DYKES, F. J., and RICKWOOD, H. J. May 11, 1945, No. 11920. [Class 7 (ii] 'In a two-stroke engine having a combustion chamber 48 common to two working cylinders in which pistons connected to the same crankshaft control inlet'and exhaust ports 44, 46, the charge is supplied by a separate pump cylinder 50, and the three pistons are each connected to the same crank pin ; two sets of three pistons are connected to two crank 'pins arranged at an angle of 180 degrees, and the pump cylinder of one set supplies charge to the working cylinders of the other set. The pump spaces are permanently, connected by passages 62, 64 to opposite sides of a partition 80 in a rotary valve 70, which rotates at engine speed and controls inlet and outlet passages 60, 66, the passage 66 being connected by a pipe 68 to the inlet ports 44 of both pairs of working cylinders. Alternatively, inlet ports in the pump cylinder may be controlled by their pistons.
