Abstract

591,197. Surface and outline gauges. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., and JELLIS, M. May 2, 1945, No. 11067. [Class 106 (ii)] Apparatus for comparing the surface and outline of irregularly shaped workpieces with a master standard comprises in operative connection, a rotatable arbor 3 carrying the master 1 and workpiece 2 mounted on pivots 4 in a biassed pivoted frame 5. a slide 9 movable parallel to the axis of the arbor and carrying a fixed follower 7 adapted to bear against the master and a movable follower 8 adapted to bear against the workpiece, and a rotatable disc 12 upon which a base line 25 is traced by a - stylus 11 fixed to the slide 9 and corresponding to the master follower 7 and a second stylus 14 connected by magnifying linkage 13 to the workpiece follower 8 adapted to trace a scroll 26 superimposed on the base line 25. A motor 18 is adapted to drive through gearing the arbor 3, the slide 9 and disc 12. The frame 5 is mounted on pivots 6, the axes of which are parallel to but not coaxial with those of the pivots 4, and a weight 15 is arranged to bias the frame so that the master always engages the follower 7. The disc 12 is of smoked glass. The slide 9 can be de-clutched from the power drive for manual movement.
