Abstract
591,144. Vehicle fittings for unloading. GREEN, E. W. Aug. 2, 1944, No. 14743. [Class 78(iv)] Means for discharging material from the body of a vehicle consist of at least two endless chains which pass around pairs of sprockets mounted on shafts located adjacent the transverse edges of the body, and transverse slats or bars secured to said chains, and are characterised in that the chains are mounted and driven in such a manner that they and the slats or bars in the lowermost portion of their travel pass along the floor of the vehicle from front to back while in contact with the material directly above and then out of the end of the body so as to discharge the material therefrom and then pass over a pair of said sprockets located exteriorly of the vehicle body. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the conveyer comprises scraper bars 10 secured to a pair of chains 11 running on sprockets on shafts 13 which are supported on the vehicle body 16 by a frame 14 comprising angle bars 15. The chains are driven from the vehicle rear axle 19 by a chain 20 engaging a sprocket 18 on an extension of the rear shaft 13a, and their tensions may be adjusted by blocks 21 slidable in guides 22 and supporting the front shaft 13b. During their passage along the top of the frame 14, the bars 10 are supported at their ends in guides secured to the frame. The rate of discharge from the vehicle is controlled by a plate 24 adjustably supported above the floor 27 on a rack 25 secured to the rear of the vehicle. Material may be discharged from the vehicle into a feeding or distributing device secured to the rear of the vehicle, such as an inclined apron, a bladed rotary shaft or a hopper.
