Abstract
591,092. Detectors. GENERAL ELEC. TRIC CO., Ltd., BRITTAIN, F. H., and BUCKINGHAM, J. April 28, 1945, No. 10779. [Class 40 (v)] In a detector of the crystal and wire' type, the surface of the crystal round the end of the wire is covered by a thin layer of an insulating solid of low dielectric loss. which layer closely surrounds the wire .so as to prevent lateral displacement of the said end of the wire rolative to the surface of the crystal. The dielectric may be n-butyl methacrylate, which is applied to the crystal in liquid form. After satisfactory adjustment of the wire contact, the liquid is polymerised to form a solid layer by heating for about 8 hours at a temperature of 70-90‹ C. Alternatively the layer may be formed of a high melting point wax or shellac, which is applied in powder form and melted after the contact is adjusted to flow round the contact and form a solid layer on cooling.
