Abstract

587,641. Heating liquids by electric resistances. LEE, E. Dec. 14, 1944, No. 25073. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electric heater for liquids comprises a helically wound unit 2, containing a coiled resistance element 3 of the type which is insulated by a packing of magnesium oxide 3a, the lower end of the element being returned within the helix to bring it adjacent to the upper end 8, and the convolutions being supported by members 4. The heating unit is mounted between an inner casing 9 and a further casing 17 between which the liquid is confined. The casings 9 and 17 are provided with helical grooves 9a and 17a which register with the convolutions of the heater unit. The heater circuit may be controlled by a fluid supply pressure switch comprising a conical hood 19 and a mercury switch 20.
