Abstract
587,432. Counting-apparatus. AVERYHARDOLL, Ltd. (Soc. Anon. pour tous Appareillages Mecaniques). Jan. 25, 1939, No. 2572. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 26, 1939.] [Class 106 (i)] Registering mechanism for use with fluid dispensing apparatus comprises a grooved shaft 13 with numeral drums 5, 42 loosely mounted thereon, means operated by a single knob 10 for longitudinally displacing the shaft and thereby uncoupling carry-over devices located between each pair of drums, and means also. operated by the knob for rotating the grooved shaft to re-set the drums to zero, and is characterized by a transmission device between the shaft and the knob comprising a roller 51 and a sleeve 12, the sleeve having helical and axial tracks 47 for displacing the roller. A flow meter (not shown) actuates a quantity register 5, 42 through a shaft 4, gears 2, 3, a clutch 6, 7 and a pinion 8 which drives a gear 9 fixed to the units drum 5 of the register. Carries to the higher denominations drums 42 are made through discs 78 having dogs to engage transfer pinions 43. The flow meter also actuates a price register 105, 142 through the shaft 4, a variable ratio transmission 76 (the gear ratio of which is adjustable to represent the price per unit volume of the liquid dispensed), gears 102, 103 and a clutch 107. To zeroize both registers, a one-way knob 10 is turned clockwise and this turns a sleeve 12 having helical grooves 47 (developed in Fig. 5) co-operating with rollers 51 mounted on an outer sleeve 11 which is prevented from rotation by a key 17 sliding in an axial groove 15. Thus the sleeve 11 and the shaft 13 to which it is fixed are forced away from the knob 10 against a spring 21. A three-armed lever 72 on the shaft 13 is also moved and carries with it the shafts 46 and 146 carrying the transfer pinions and thus disengages these pinions from the discs 78 and 178. -The lever 72 also moves with it a screen 23 and, subsequently, an arm 32 of a spring- pressed lever 32, 58 engages the right-hand edge of a lug 52 on the screen 23, thus-preventing the return movement of the shaft 13. A cam 19 integral with the lever 72 is now in a position to allow upward movement of a spring-urged lever 55 fixed on a shaft 53 which carries pawls 29, Fig. 4, adapted to engage recesses 33, 133 in cams 37, 137 fixed to the numeral drums of the registers. Continued rotation of the knob 10 now rotates the grooved shaft 13 (since the key 17 has passed out of the end of the slot 15) and, through the intermediary of pawls 25 the numeral drums 5, 42 are rotated to their zero positions. The shaft 113 is also rotated through gears 70 to zeroize the drums of the lower register. The shaft 53 rotates slightly as the pawls 29 fall intothe recesses 33, 133, and this lifts the lever 55 to engage the cam 19, and a projection 56 on the lever engages the bell-crank 32, 58 and rocks it out of engagement with the lug 52. The rotation of the knob 10 will now have brought the groove 15 into alignment with the key 17 again and therefore the shaft 13 with its associated devices will be returned to its initial position by the spring 21. During the zeroizing operation the clutch 107 is disengaged by movement of the shaft 113 to the right, this movement being communicated from the shaft 13 through a lever 71.
