Abstract
587,060. Temperature-responsive actuating- elements. BALL, E. D., and TAYLOR, F. G. Dec. 6, 1944, No. 24441. [Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A temperature-responsive alarm device comprises two flexible metal shells 1 and 2, welded together at their periphery, between which is secured a diaphragm 3 dividing the device into two chambers, of which the upper one contains a liquid having a low boiling point, e.g., methylated spirit. The whole casing is immersed in the liquid' being heated, and upon a predetermined temperature being attained the diaphragm bearing the stud 6 moves downwards to cause the stud 6 to push the end of the blade spring 10, from which it is insulated by the mica disc 7, into contact with the adjustable screw 9. This action completes an electric circuit through a battery 13 and alarm bell 14. The bell 14 may be replaced by a visual signal device.
