Abstract

586,690. Locking nuts &c. SAY, J. Aug.17, 1944, No. 15759. [Class 89 (i)] Nuts and bolt heads are locked to the surfaces which they engage by means of a number of co-operating projections and recesses. The projections are preferably dome shaped and may be arranged at B on the underside of the nut or bolt head in one or more concentric circles at equal pitch distances. The projections may be formed by hot or cold pressing and be case hardened so that under pressure they form their own recesses in softer abutting materials. The projections may be formed on both sides of a washer. If the projections be near the thread metal will be displaced towards this, causing a tighter lock. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14,200/08, [Class 89], 154,862, 155,559, 268,681, [all in Class 89 (i)], and 559,578.
