586,208. Optical apparatus. ESDAILE, E. W. Aug. 30, 1944, No. 16501. [Classes 97 (i) and 97 (ii)] A magnifying lens is mounted on a magnetic compass by a support comprising arms 5, 6 pivoted at 9, 10 to the compass housing 4 so that the height of the lens relative to the compass card may be varied without affecting the focus, of the lens. The line forming the pivots is tangential to the compass card and passes through the lubber line so that the latter is in focus as the lens is pivoted. A lamp 13 is provided. One arm only may be used.
