Abstract
585,884. Soldering tools. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., (trading as STANELCO PRODUCTS), and HANDLEY, J. Aug. 15, 1944, No. 15573. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Making compound plates.-An electric soldering tool comprises a solder reservoir provided with an electric heater, a solder outlet controlled by the operator and means for smearing the work with flux. The tool may be shaped in the form of a carpenter's plane and may be used for soldering a crevice between two narrow beads formed by turning over the edges of the two metal laminations covering a number of plywood sheets forming a reinforced board. The body 1 which is formed with guides 22, 23 shaped to fit nearly over the edge of the board, is provided with a hand grip 2, a knob 3, a solder container 4 and a flux bath 19. The solder container which is provided with a copper bit 24, is heated by two flat electric heating elements lying against its side walls, the temperature being varied by an adjustable thermal control 7. The outlet orifice 9 for molten solder is normally closed by a valve 10 under control of a lever 15 pressed down by a spring plunger 18. Through the valve passes a ball-ended rod 12 which is pushed up by engagement with the work when the lever 15 is pressed by the operator, the degree of opening being varied by a nut 14. The flux bath which is provided with drip holes 20 and a felt pad 21 is pressed downwardly by a spring 27 on a spindle 25 having a knob 30 for releasing pressure on the pad.
