Abstract

585,598. Walls. NORMAN, C. B. K. VAN. June 1, 1944, No. 10563. [Class 20 (iv)] In a wall of horizontally extending wood &c. boards mounted on studs having one or two dovetails extending along one side, each board has vertical grooves on one face, each of which grooves makes face to face contact with one side only of a dovetail on the stud. Fig. 2 shows boards 10, tongued and grooved along their top and bottom edges respectively, and having vertical grooves 21 with parallel sides, "L.H." and "R.H." indicating the direction of diagonal movement by which they are placed in position against the outsides of studs 3, 4, 5. Corner fillets 35 lock the boards in position. Boards in adjacent rows have their grooves sloped in opposite directions, and joins which are arranged to fall at a stud 3, between its pair of dovetails 16, are staggered. Studs which do not cover joins in the boards need have only one dovetail 16. Fig. 12 shows dovetails in the form of metal channels 27 co-operating with saw-cut grooves 30 and V-grooves 31. The wooden top plates of the walls may be grooved to take the tongues of the boards in the top row.
