Abstract
585,178. Cycle trailers convertible into sleds. ZULLIG, O. Aug. 17, 1944, No. 15700. [Classes 103 (v), 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] A sports or transport vehicle has an underslung chassis comprising an upper carrying frame 1, and an underframe 3 secured to the upper frame 1 by means of struts 4 and serving as runners for use on icy surfaces. Detachable rear wheels 8 protected by means of mudguards 9 are clamped to the underframe 3 while the detachable wheel or wheels at the front are' secured to a guiding member or members controlled by a steering wheel 11 on a steering column 23 pivoting in a cross member at the forward end 18 of the supper frame 1. In the embodiment shown the forward end 18 of the upper frame rests on springs. 19' on the cross member 17 and is guided by rods 19 sliding on guides 20 in member 17, while the guiding members are constituted by a pair of steerable runners 12 controlled by track rod 21 and link 24 from the steering wheel 11 and carrying detachable wheels 13 and mudguards 14. In a further construction a single central front wheel is mounted to castor on a rearwardly bent fork controlled by the steering wheel 11 which pivots in a cross member releasably screwed to the upper frame 1. A towing bar comprising a forked arm whose fork ends are adapted to be clamped to the rear fork of a bicycle and which is pivoted to a link adapted to be clamped to the front cross strut of the vehicle may be used to tow the latter embodiment, while to tow the former, the bar must be secured to the runners 12.
