Abstract
583,951. Wave guides. FERTIL, G. E. F., and WRIGHT, C. S. June 7, 1944, No. 10957. [Class 40 (v)] Means for controlling the transmission of electromagnetic wave energy between a single wave guide 1 and a divided wave guide 2, 3 joined to it by a tapering wave guide section 4, 5, comprises a deflector 12 which is hinged at 13 between the two portions of the divided wave guide so that its free end 14 can be moved to increase the opening into one portion of the divided wave guide 2, 3 while diminishing the opening into the other portion. The side walls 4, 5 of the tapered section are formed with flanges 11 which lie adjacent the inner surfaces of plates 15 carried by opposite edges of gate 12 to prevent leakage of energy at the junctions. While the tapered section is necessarily hollow and rectangular, the main guides may be circular and may be filled with dielectric. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 582,768.
