Abstract
583,616. Hand irons. CRAWFORD & PARTNERS, Ltd., SIR W., and KENNEDY, T. W. Nov. 8, 1944, No. 21949. [Class 138 (ii)] The hollow body portion 8 of the iron is formed with an upstanding forehook 9, and a moulded insulating U-shaped member 11 takes into the forehook, the upper limb 12 of such member forming the handle whilst the lower limb 13 extends rearwardly over the body 8 to shield the hand of the user. The member 11 is secured by cleats 18 engaging under brackets 19 on the body 8, and by a screw 23, and can be withdrawn after undoing that screw only. An electric heating element 3 is housed in a cavity 2 in the soleplate 1, which has button grooves formed in its edges, and the body 8 is secured to the soleplate by studs 20, 21. The sliding control 7 of a thermostatic control switch 5, 6 operates in a slot 17 in the member 11 below the handle. An indicator bulb 29 is mounted below a translucent panel 30 in the forehook 9, which also carries the connecting terminals 25 for the flexible cable 26 which passes out at the rear of the handle 12. The iron can be up-ended on the extremities 15 and 16 of the insulating member 11.
