[Classes 42 (i) and 140] A process for producing an ornamental fabric comprises adhering a network of flexible material 12, Fig. 2, to an extensible fabric 11 which is then stretched, say, in the direction of the arrow A. In this condition the flexible material is "set" leaving the threads of the fabric as seen from the side opposite the flexible material (Fig. 4) farther apart over the holes in the flexible network than where adhered to it. The fabric is preferably knitted, say of rayon or silk, and may not be fully stretched in the operation described so that the final product is still extensible. It may also be stretched in more than one direction. Depending on the amount of extensibility required in the final fabric the flexible material may be nitrocellulose, vinyl resin, or, preferably, rubber, in which case the "setting" process is vulcanising. A second layer of fabric may be provided on the opposite side of the flexible material layer. Specification 565,595 is referred to.
