582,746. Cigarette &c. packages. SHARMAN, C. F. and COULSON, D. A. May 18, 1944, No. 9532. [Classes 18, 66 and 94 (i)] A moisture - re - sisting package of the kind in which goods, e.g., cigarettes, are contained in a box consisting of two parts connected by a sealing band around the four sides and which is opened by severing the band along three sides to have a hinge connection on the fourth side, is made from paper, cardboard or like sheet material and comprises a tray 5 and a lid 6 each made from a blank having a central panel and four side extensions, the tray having a rebated portion 9 to fit within the lid formed by a skelet 13 fitting within the tray or by setting inwards the upper border of the wall. A band 3 of substantially the same depth as the box is adhesively secured around the four walls so as to hold these together and seal the joint between the lid and tray, the container being such that it may conveniently be opened by severing the band along three sides leaving the fourth side as a hinge 7. The material may be moisture-resisting or the package may be given a moisture-resisting coat, e.g., of synthetic resin. The severing may be effected by a tearing string the end of which may be initially covered by the band. The top and bottom may be domed, and the material may be laminated, one layer consisting of metal foil.
