[Class 88 (ii)] Relates to the mouthpieces of musical wind instruments of the kind in which the wind passes through a narrow slot or channel and strikes a sharp edge or wind cutter 19, as in a recorder-flute 11. According to the invention the mouthpiece 10 has a thin end portion for insertion between the lips of the player and comprises a tube having a groove 25 in line with the wind cutter to form the air passage, a plug 23 being fitted in the tube and being formed with means for correctly locating it in relation to the groove. The mouthpiece may be made from mouldable plastic materials, such as cellulose acetate, or other mouldable materials such as metals and alloys. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the wind cutter 19 is integral with the body 13, and into the latter is fitted a slightly tapered plug 23 a flat surface 24 on which projects slightly into and constitutes one wall of the slot 25. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown) the surface of the plug adjacent the slot is grooved longitudinally. In another construction, Fig. 7,. the wind cutter 191 is moulded separately, and the body 13 of the mouthpiece has a cavity 27 having its side walls 28 formed with obliquely undulant portions for receiving the wind cutter which is inserted from inside the rear end of the mouthpiece.
