[Class 75 (i)] In a burner 1 in which means are provided for automatically turning on the oil supply when the burner is clamped into the holder and for cutting off the oil supply when the burner is removed, a pivoted shield 13 is linked to a lever 12 controlling the oil supply so as to move to cover the joint of the burner when the lever is moved to allow oil to flow to the burner, and to uncover the joint when the lever is moved to cut off oil from the burner. To secure it in its holder, the burner has a recess 7, Fig. 1, engaged by a spring-pressed button 6 on an arm 3- so that when a clamping screw 5 bearing on a boss 9 of the burner is advanced by rotation of a wheel 8, the button 6 is moved back against the action of its spring and a spring/loaded ball valve is moved off its seating so that the central bore of the burner communicates with the oil supply passage. When the lever 12 is moved to allow oil to flow to the burner, a cranked arm 17 moves a shield 15 to which it is attached to cover the clamping wheel 8 and allows a pivoted shield 13 to move under gravity to cover the burner point, an extension 19, Fig. 4, of the shield being held by the arm 17 to prevent the shield from being moved to uncover the joint. When the lever is moved to cut off the oil supply, the arm 17 rotates until it engages a lug 18 on the shield 13, when it lifts it to uncover the burner joint. The clamping wheel shield 15 may be provided with a similar lug and frontal extension to the shield 13 so that both shields are operated in same way by the arm 17.
