Abstract
581,540. Babies' collapsable push chairs. ROSEVEAR, F. H. Sept. 8, 1944, No. 17161. [Class 108 (i)] A baby's push chair comprises a U-shaped . frame 1 with a socket 2 for an adjustable spade handle 3 and brackets 5 for wheels 6, a seat frame 8 pivoted at 7 about midway of the frame 1, a front and rear cross-member 13, 24, for the seat frame and an arm rest 12 pivoted at 11 at each side of the main frame and engaging detachably by its free ends in the front cross member 13 of the seat. The seat frame 8 is provided with wheels 6a and an adjustable footrest 16 is clamped to the front bar 13 by serrated joints which are tightened by wing nuts 15, a foot bar being adjustable in the footrest through a series of holes 17 therein. A canvas seat 9 overlaps the bars 13, 24 and is secured by press studs, or the ends connected by springs. Springs 25a also are connected to the bars 13, 24 to collapse the frame when the arm rests 12 are detached from the bar and the handle 3 raised. The arm rests 12 are joined by a curved back rest clamped to the arms at 20 and provided with padding 21 and a front safety bar 26. The front end of each arm is provided with a grooved pin 14 which can engage with a spring clip on the cross-member 13. The chair is opened by a downward pressure on the handle 3 to open the frame 8 until it contacts stops 10 on the frame 1, the grooved pins 14 of the arm rests are then inserted in the spring catches in the bar 13 to maintain the chair in open position. Disengagement of the pins 14 from the bar 13 causes the chair to collapse automatically due to the tension of the spring 25a. The seat may be removed and a shopping basket attached to the arm rests.
