Abstract
581,438. Aircraft undercarriages. DUNLOP RUBBER. CO., Ltd., and TRE. VASKIS, H. W. June 12, 1945, No. 14822. [Class 4] A retractable landing-wheel, e.g. a nose-wheel of a tricycle type landing-gear, is braked automatically by fluid-pressure means, as the wheel is retracted. As shown, the wheel 1 is mounted on a support 2 pivoted at 3 to the aircraft body 4, the support being actuated by a fluidpressure cylinder 6 and linkage 7, 8. A cylinder 13 is attached to the support 2, the piston-rod 16 beirig secured to a fixed pivot 17. The upward swing of the support 2 pushes the cylinder 13 up over the piston 15, the generated fluid pressure being conveyed to the brake 14 by the pipe 18. The brake may be operated by a distensible annulus. The piston 15 may have a relief valve, the return of the liquid to the underside of the piston being permitted by another, but oppositely opening, valve in the piston. The cylinder 13 is connected to the normal pipe which is under the control of the pilot and is used for admitting controlled fluid pressure to the brake 14.
