Abstract

581,249. Rolling screw - threads. MORRIS, H. July 15, 1944, Nos. 13550/44 and 15242/45. [Class 83 (iv)] Dies for rolling screw-threads have conversely curved leading ends 10a, 11a that ensure correct presentation of the blanks apart from the squareness of the feed finger. The first active portions 10b, 11b of the dies are tapered gradually to form the thread and are followed by parallel finishing portions 10c, 11c terminating in-convex parts 10d, 11d providing for gradual reduction of pressure. The parts 10b, 11b may be extended leaving only sufficient parallel parts to correspond to one circumference of the blank. The inclination of the thread forming. ridges is preferably varied throughout the taper parts according to the change in helix angle between the crest and root of the thread.
