Abstract

581,181. Electric induction heating. HAIM, G., and ZADE, H. P. Feb. 7, 1944, No. 2238. [Class 39 (iii)] In the welding of plastics in a high frequency electric field between electrodes, breakdown across the air spaces in the field is prevented by securing a sheet of dielectric to at least one of the electrodes. The dielectric 34 may be cast on the face of the electrode and into recesses provided with screws or other securing devices, or it may be secured by dovetailed grooves 35, 36 as shown. Pairs of layers of plastic 37-40 with intervening air spaces, are shown between electrodes 30, 31. The electrodes may be watercooled by pipes 32, 33. The dielectric sheet may be polyethylene or polystyrene.
