Abstract

580,819. Filtering liquids. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. March 28, 1944, No. 5727. [Class 46] A filter comprises a filter head in two parts 2, 3, a container 1 and a filter unit 16, means being provided whereby the parts 2, 3 may be held firmly together, or spaced apart though still connected, the latter arrangement permitting detachable connection of the container to the part 3, with the container being firmly secured when the two parts are drawn into close contact. As shown, the parts are connected by a bolt 27 which screws into a boss 20a in the part 3. This part is provided with lugs 41 circumferentially spaced which co-operate with ledges 39 on the container 1. The bolt 27 is provided with a stop 30 having a lug 31 for engagement with a lug 32 on the boss 20a so that the bolt may be unscrewed to a limited extent only, allowing limited separation of the parts 2, 3. This enables a bayonet-joint connection to be established between the lugs 41 and the ledges 39. When the bolt is tightened a flange 38 on the container is pressed against a U-shaped sealing ring 10 provided in a recess in the part 2. The container 1 is prevented from turning by means of a spring- pressed bolt 59 engaging a notch in the part 2, the bolt being released by actuation of a thumb latch 58. In a modification the container is provided with a bracket 52, Fig. 8, adapted to co-operate with notched portions of the head part 2 during attachment or detachment of the container. The filter unit may be provided with a bottom pressure plate containing radial spring-pressed stops 67, Fig. 13, which engage the inner wall of the container 1. Specification 534,703 is referred to.
