580,144. Guards for rotary cutting tools. BRIGGS, J. C., CHESTON, A. S., EDMONDS, E. C., and CHESTON, B. May 31, 1944, No. 10429. [Class 80 (iv)] A telescopic guard for a rotary cutting tool comprises a plurality of relatively slidable sleeves 11, 12, 13, the upper one 11 being secured to the machine frame 6 and the lower one 12 being supported and located by a head 2, such as is described in Specification 560,507, [Group XXII], freely mounted on the tool chuck or holder 1. The sleeves may be connected by a pin- and-slot connection, and the lower sleeve 12 may be temporarily locked to the head 2 by a bayonet joint connection. A spring 18 tending to press the sleeve 13 downwards may be located between the sleeves 11, 13, and a similar spring may be arranged between the sleeves 12, 13.
