Abstract
579,924. Alloys. CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM CO. April 21, 1942, No. 5350. Convention date, March 6, 1941. [Class 82 (i)] Iron or steel alloys containing cobalt and silicon are made by adding a preformed cobalt silicide or mixture of cobalt silicides to molten iron or steel. The addition may be made to the furnace charge or in a ladle when the iron or steel is at a temperature sufficient to dissolve the silicide. An excess of silicon may be present, and another alloying metal such as molybdenum may be introduced at the same time, for example in the form of ferro-molybdenum or calcium molybdate.
