Abstract
579,432. Vehicle spring-suspensions. OGILVIE, D. A. March 28, 1944, No. 5733. [Class 108 (ii)] A front wheel suspension for road vehicles comprises a stub-axle 18 secured to a pair of parallel vertical slide-bars or rods 15 slidable through a bracket 7 pivotally mounted on an inclined king-pin which is supported by the axle beam 4 and serves as the steering pivot for the wheel 19, means being provided on the slide-bars 15 for resiliently restraining relative vertical sliding motion between the slide-bars and the bracket. As shown, each end of the axle beam 4, which is rigidly attached to the undercarriage, has an inclined tubular portion or sleeve 5 in which the king-pin is secured, the ends of the pin forming journals on which the bracket 7 is pivoted. The bracket cornprises crossheads 8, 9 vertical webs 10 and projections 11, 12 apertured at 13 to receive the ends of the king-pin, the crossheads having holes for the passage of the slide-bars 15 which are connected by a yoke 16 integral with the stub-axle 18. Vertical movement of the wheel 19 relatively to the axle beam 4 is restrained by oleo-pneumatic or other shock-absorbers 20 mounted on the crosshead 8 around the upper ends of the bars 15 or by other means, such as opposed springs fitted between the bracket and the slide-bars.
