Abstract

578,518. Drying apparatus. TYLER, G. M. April 19, 1943, No. 6251. [Class 34 (ii)] Drying apparatus for fertilisers and like material comprises a closed substantiallyhorizontal drum B which is rotatably mounted within a casing A and heated by a portable grate &c. D and through which the material circulates from an axial feed chute C on one side to an axial discharge K on the other side. As shown, the drum is divided by a central vertical partition G, and on each side of the latter is provided a series of concentric plates E to form annular passages having communicating openings with guides H ; an aperture P with deflector F is also provided in the partition G at the periphery thereof. The arrangement is such that, upon rotation of the drum, material fed to the chute C will fall into the innermost passage on the feed side of the drum and pass in succession through the passages on this side to the outermost one, thence through the aperture P and the passages on the outlet side to the discharge K. The plates E are preferably of corrugated metal or fitted with strips, the corrugations or strips running annularly, and the upper part of the casing A may be fitted with a fan and/or chimney to remove gases &c. therefrom. If desired the material may be subjected to a preliminary water spray or steam jet treatment.
