Abstract
578,046. Valve amplifying circuits. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1943, No. 17660. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1942. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] The deflecting electrodes in a cathode-ray tube are fed from a push-pull amplifier in which an impedance element interconnects the anodes and a second impedance is interposed between an adjustable tapping of the first impedance and a point of low signal voltage. The input voltage is applied to one valve of the push-pull pair and the grid of the second valve is fed from the tapping on the first impedance. The adjustable tapping produces degenerative feed-back network and enables both phase and voltage balance of the amplifier to be obtained and also neutralization of the effects of stray capacities. As shown, similar amplifiers 20, 21 and 30, 31 are provided for the vertical and horizontal deflecting voltages respectively. The horizontal deflecting voltage is applied to the input grid 20b of the amplifier 20, 21. The anodes are directly connected to the deflecting electrodes 16 of the cathode-ray tube 10 and are also connected together by the resistance 22, the tapping on which is connected through the resistance 24 to the high tension supply. The voltage across the resistance 24 is applied through condenser 26 to provide the out-ofphase voltage applied to the grid 21b. The voltage source energizing the amplifier has its negative pole connected to the positive pole of the cathode-ray tube energizing voltage source and its positive pole connected to the amplifier. The potentiometers 40, 41 serve to provide adjustable voltages for the focusing electrode 14 and control electrode 13 so as to control the focusing and intensity of the beam. If amplifier valves of high amplification factor are used, the cathodes may be directly grounded and the bias resistance-condenser combination 28, 29, otherwise used, may be omitted. In the former case, grid bias for operating the valves is obtained by rectification of signal voltages. Instead of the triode valves shown, tetrode, pentode or other multi-grid valves may be used.
