Abstract

578,018. Wireless aerials. LAWSON, D. I., WEIGHTON, D., and PYE, Ltd. April 8, 1943, No. 5613. [Class 40 (v)] A broadcast radiator suitable for centimetre waves comprises a pair of reflecting surfaces of revolution A, B mounted coaxially one above the other with the energized antenna D located in one of them, the arrangement being such that the waves emitted by the antenna D are reflected by the reflector A in which it is situated to the reflector B, and thence outwardly in all directions as a substantially horizontal or a downwardly-inclined beam. Preferably, the antenna is in the lower reflector, which may be situated at the base of a mast carrying the upper reflector, or may be carried on the mast adjacent the upper reflector. As shown in Fig. 1, the reflector A is paraboloidal, the reflector B conical, and the antenna D is an axial dipole. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the reflector A is a paraboloid truncated at the lateral sectal plane, the antenna D being a quarter-wave dipole. In a further modification, the reflector containing the antenna is conical or a truncated cone, and the upper reflector is paraboloidal.
