Abstract

577,305. Stays ; hinges. WILMOTBREEDEN, Ltd., and GOUGH, L. Sept. 21, 1944, No. 18037. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] A stay comprising two arms pivoted together has a coiledspring friction clutch at the pivot, with means for manual release. The pivot pin b is non-rotatable in one stay-member a and free in the staymember a<1>. The helical spring h is contained in a cup i secured to the member a<1>, and its ends are turned inwardly at a short distance on either side of a projection on a disc mounted non-rotatably on the pivot-pin b. so that any relative movement between the parts very soon causes the projection on the disc j to engage one end of the spring and arrest the movement. A cover g, adapted for rotation by the fingers, is mounted on the end of the pin b by means of a plate n, which is fixed to the cover and has projections adapted, when the cover is rotated in either direction, to engage one or other end of the spring h to release the clutch.
