Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0577259/IV/1> wherein D is the residue of a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nitrogen nucleus, n is 0 or 1, R1 is a hydrocarbon or heterocyclic group, and R2 is an alkyl or aralkyl group are prepared by reacting a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic nitrogen quaternary salt containing a methyl group in a or g position to the quaternary nitrogen atom with an acylacetic ester in the presence of a solvent and a base. b -Acetoacetylmethine-2-methyldihydrobenzthiazole is prepared by refluxing 1-methylbenzthiazole methiodide with ethyl acetoacetate in xylene in the presence of triethylamine or sodium ethoxide. 1 - Acetoacetylmethine - 2 - methyl - 5 : 6 - dihydronaphthathiazole, 2 - benzoyl - acetylmethine - 1 - methyldihydroquinoline, and 1 - furoylacetylmethine - 2 - ethyl - 4 - chlorodihydrobenz - thiazole. The Provisional Specification refers also to the compounds 2 - acetoacetylmethine - 3 : 4 - dimethyldihydrothiazole and 1-picolinoylacetyl-methine-2-ethyl-4-methyldihydrobenzthiazole.
