Abstract
577,154. Aircraft cabins. VICKERS - ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and WALLIS, B. N. March 31, 1944, No. 6071. [Class 4] In an aircraft compartment of the kind comprising an inner cell or chamber suspended within the skeletal frame of the fuselage structure, and wherein the skins of the inner cell and outer structure incorporate layers of soundproofing material, the inner cell is suspended through the medium of resilient vibration dampers attached to the chordal members of the outer frame, such that except at the points of its suspension the inner cell is entirely surrounded by an annular air-space sealed from the outer atmosphere. As shown applied to a geodetic fuselage construction, the inner cell 15, which may be pressure tight, is suspended from the chordal hoops 11 by resilient mountings 13, for example those under the Registered Trade Mark " Silentbloc ", the wall of the cell being sandwiched between outer and inner hoops 14, 16, the former of which are carried by the mountings 13. The soundproofing material 18 for the outer structure is packed between the geodetic members 10, the inner cell being provided on its interior surface with a layer 151 of sound-proofing material. Transverse beams 19 for supporting the cabin floor are also attached at their ends to the chordal members 11 by vibration-damping connections 20. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the annular air space 21 between the inner cell 15 and the outer frame 12 is closed at each end and connected to a ducted system comprising inlet and outlet pipes 22, 23, respectively, and including a pump 24 and heat exchanger 25, the whole forming a closed circuit through which heated or cooled air may be circulated.
