Abstract

[Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] The bladings on the oppositelyrotating rotors of a gas turbine are divided into a portion acting as an air-compressor and a portion acting as a prime mover. Fig. 2 shows an axial flow type machine. Air enters at 3a, is compressed in the inner portions of the bladings, is heated in a combustion chamber 6a and gives up power to the rotois in the outer portions of the bladings. Fig. 3 shows a. radial flow type machine arranged for jet-propulsion. The rotors 4, 5 drive contra-rotational propellors 13, 14, the blades of which are divided by rings 13a 14a. The inner portions deliver air to the compressor bladings and the outer portions cause a stream of air to pass over the combustion chamber 3c which is delivered to an annular propulsion jet A<1> surrounding an inner propulsion jet B<1> through which the turbine exhausts. The motive fluid for the turbine may be a rare gas and operate in a closed cycle and be heated in a surface exchanger. The turbine rotors may drive contra-rotational members of an electric generator. A portion of the air delivered by the air compressor may be used as the motive fluid for another turbine, or for jet propulsion.
