Abstract

576,437. Pipe couplings. WALTERS, A. May 11, 1944, No. 9018. [Class 99 (i)] In a detachable coupling of the kind in which an axially movable sleeve 5 is adapted to move a number of balls 3 loosely carried in a socket member 2 into engagement with a groove or recesses 4 in a spigot 1, the sleeve has an internal flange 5c which has a gap 7 adapted to register with projection 6 on the socket so that the sleeve may be moved to its inoperative position. Complete withdrawal of the sleeve may be prevented by a projection 6a. Movement of the sleeve to its operative position may be effected by rotation and engagement of a cam surface 8 with the shoulder 6. In another form the-socket is provided with two stop members circumferentially and longitudinally offset, each stop being adapted to pass through the gap in the sleeve flange.
