Abstract
575,881. Percussive tools. WARSOP PETROL DRILL & TOOLS, Ltd., and WARSOP, N. W. April 20, 1944, No. 7348. [Class 124] In an internal combustion percussive tool comprising a two-diameter hammer piston the smaller part m of which works in an extension of the engine cylinder h and the larger part n works in a chamber o supplied by a port p with gases under pressure from the engine cylinder, idle blows on the end of the chamber o are prevented by making the chamber o of such a length, and by arranging the outlet q of the control port at such a distance above the lower end of the chamber that, when the tool is lifted and the engine is still running, the larger part n of the hammer piston passes beneath the outlet q, and the trapped gases escape through a bleed hole s at the bottom of the chamber o. A bleed hole t and a groove u also are formed in the wall of the chamber o.
