Abstract

575,558. Vehicle wheels. LITTLEWOOD, W. March 24, 1944, No. 5466. [Class 144 (i)] Apparatus for removing heavy pneumatic tyres from wheels having a detachable rimflange comprises a table 3 on which the wheel 10 is laid, a series of radially-adjustable brackets 8 on which bifurcated hooks 9 are pivoted, and power-operated means (such as an ordinary jack 5) for forcibly moving the wheel clear of the tyre. The table 3 is supported on telescopic pillars 4 ; and, the operative ends of the hooks 9, which are formed with fine edges curved to hug the rim-base, are forcibly engaged between the fixed rim-flange 11 and the tyre-bead by means of a hand-operated threaded rod 15 fitted with thrust-nuts 14 engaging slotted brackets 13 on the hooks 9.
