Abstract

574,448. Compound sheet materials. EXPANDED RUBBER CO., Ltd., and SHELMERDINE, H. N. Sept. 8, 1941, No. 11472. [Class 140] Compound sheet material comprises a sheet of gas-expanded or spongy rubber or rubber-like material, e.g., ebonite faced on one or both sides with wood veneer, plywood, fibre impregnated with Bakelite (R.T.M.) or light material, e.g., Duralumin (R.T.M.) and having between the rubber and the veneer a thin layer of a light woody heat-insulating material, e.g., balsawood. The layers may be secured together as described in Specification 490,461. A thin layer of gas-expanded or spongy material or artificial rubber may be provided between the balsawood and the veneer. The product may be used for flooring, partitions and wing-tips of aircraft, gun-turrets and deck housings for motor-torpedo boats and for instrument frames.
