573,079. Anti-fouling paints. JORDAN, L. A., GAY, P. J., and WHITBY, L. Oct. 7, 1942, No. 14086. [Class 95] Ships bottoms are protected against fouling by the application thereto of a paint comprising a resinous film-forming constituent, a solvent therefor, a pigment, and a water-insoluble derivative of di-thiocarbomic acid or of thiuram, in which the essential structure is represented by =N-C(=S)-S-. Specified derivatives are tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, tetramethyl thiuram monosulphide, tetraethyl thiuram disulphide, tetraethyl thiuram monosulphide, zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate, dimethyl-diphenylthiuram disulphide, zinc dithiocarbamate, zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate, copper dimethyl dithiocarbamate and mercuric dimethyl dithiocarbamate. According to examples, anti-fouling paints comprise:-(1) Coal tar pitch, resin, leaded linseed stand oil, red iron oxide and tetramethyl thiuram disulphide ; (2) as in (1) with the addition of whiting ; (3) as in (1) with the addition of china clay.
