Abstract
572,391. Moulding pre stressed reinforced concrete sleepers. DOWSETT ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION, Ltd., BARBER, R. S. V., and LESTER, D. R. July 26, 1943, No. 12154. [Class 87-(ii)] In a method for the production of concrete sleepers having tensioned reinforcing wires therein, the wires being arranged parallel to each other in production lines, the supply of clean empty moulds to the production lines and the discharge of full moulds containing hardened' sleepers (or of empty moulds and sleepers separately) are effected by means of transversely-disposed conveyers or runways. Fig. 1 is a plan view of a plant lay-out comprising four production lines PL in two pairs, the reinforcing wires 18 being stretched between pedestals (not shown) at the ends of the production lines. Clean empty moulds are introduced along a transverse track 19, and the full moulds are discharged along a second transverse track 26, both tracks being disposed below the production lines. Fig. 4 shows a device for shutting off one side of a production line, to prevent transmission of vibrations to filled moulds. The device comprises a troughshaped box 35 which surrounds the wires and is filled with sand, the sand being pressed down by a lid 37 and screw spindle 38.
