Abstract

571,578. Feeding filamentary material. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Dec. 6, 1943, No. 20336. Convention date, March 18. [Class 120 (ii)] Filamentary material is fed from a supply source, e.g. spinnerets, to a device for handling it, e.g. a staple fibre cutter, by being conducted through a path comprising one or more axially displaced elongated loops, the leading portion of the material being discharged from the path through the space surrounded by the loop or loops. The filament is led about driven godets 2, 3, whose axes are not parallel, to form a plurality of loops, the leading portion of the material being drawn by suction down a discharge pipe 17 about which pivots a spring-urged sleeve 18 carrying scraper blades 22. One of the intermediate loops is drawn aside and is received by the further handling device, e.g. a staple fibre cutter 29, which may be of the type disclosed by Specification 289,028, [Class 120 (iii)]. One or both of the plates 21, carrying the scrapers 22, are provided with an outwardly projecting finger 27 to serve as a guide for the filament to the suction pipe 17.
