Abstract
<PICT:0571566/IV/1> <PICT:0571566/IV/2> A twistless nylon yarn is obtained by twisting a plurality of nylon filaments, obtained by melt-spinning, cold-drawing the twisted yarn so formed and collecting the drawn yarn on a spindle rotating reversely to the twist of the yarn so that when the yarn is unwound from the spindle it is substantially free from twist. The reverse twisting is substantially equal in magnitude to the initial twist divided by the draw ratio. The unwinding from the bobbin may be such as to involve a twist, i.e. by direct over-end withdrawal, or such as to involve no twist, that is, by parallel withdrawal. In the former case, the residual twist of the yarn on the bobbin is such that the over-end withdrawal nullifies it. In the latter case, the yarn on the bobbin is free of twist. The twistless multifilament yarn may be used for covering electric wires and cables. As shown in Fig. 1, nylon filaments collected from a spinneret and having no twist are taken from bobbin 1, passed through feed rolls 3, 4, guide 5, and traveller 6 on reciprocating ring 7, and are wound and twisted on bobbin 8. As shown in Fig. 2, the twisted yarn is taken from bobbin 8, passed between feed rolls 10, 11 and stretched by means of roll 13 and separator roll 14. The draw ratio may be 4 : 1. The twisted and drawn yarn is taken up on the untwisting bobbin 18. Specification 514,821 is referred to.
