Abstract
570,684. Photo electric pressure gauges. RICARDO, H. R., and HEMPSON, J. G. G. Sept. 23,1943, No. 15609. [Class 40 (iii)] A photo-electric pressure gauge, Fig. 2, comprises a lamp A<1>, a photo-electric cell H<1>, and a light-modulating shutter M rigidly attached to a diaphragm L clamped between a tubular casing J and a socket K for attachment to the cylinder of an engine. The lamp A<1> is mounted with a lens B<1> in a tube O on one side of a partition J<1>; the cell H<1> is on the other side; and the light beam is reflected by a pair of prisms P, P<1>. The light-modulating device comprises a mask N adjustably secured to the bottom of the partition J<1> by screws N<1>, a plate N<3> depending from the partition J<1> for defining the upper edge of the light slit, and the shutter M attached to the diaphragm L and defining the lower .edge of the light slit. The optical focus is just in front or at the back of the light slit, so that the variations in the amount of light passing the slit and reaching the cell are proportional to the deflections of the diaphragm, and, therefore, to the variations of pressure on the diaphragm.
